4D | “Ctrl+Z” Ideation

You Can’t Ctrl+Z The World

As many of you guys know, Ctrl+Z is an undo button. And the sad thing is, we can’t apply this method in reality.

The desire to erase something and start over runs deep in our lives. We do it in many ways. Sometimes we try to erase a bad memory – or at least render it impotent by attempting to cover it with newer memories.

Will the increasing virtuality of our lives add to this desire to just Ctrl+Z our problems away?

Life does not have an undo button, and because of that, we’re afraid to make mistakes. We’re all fully aware that we can’t undo our own error or mistakes.

Hence, we are very careful and precise with each and every action we make or do. This means that we don’t really take risks or dare to experiment as much as we want. Because, we’re afraid that we might take a wrong turn and screw everything up.

I know it’s hard to lose control of yourself. We tend to overthink about everything, thinking about the outcome, judgement, consequences or if it’s right or not. This – we’re restraining ourselves, being in our own box, and preventing ourselves from unleashing our full potential. Because we’re afraid of  failure, judgements or mistakes.

We need to let go. To experiment, to take risks, be creative, throughout this process, we can learn. Don’t be afraid, that is how we will grow to be better.

Changing, restarting, losing control without the fear of failure, judgement. That is how we evolve, transform and grow.

In conclusion, i want to tell my audience that, it’s ok to make mistakes. Don’t be afraid. Learn to let go, lose control, and be bold.

What if you can Ctrl+Z your life?

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to undo any mistake that you made?

Imagine taking back any slip of the tongue or bad decision. How convenient would that be? Would you undo part of your life if you could?

What would you Ctrl+Z?

Ok the thing is, I’m stuck and I’m not sure on how I’m gonna execute this ctrl+z idea! I’m thinking of using mixed media, like doing embroidery on photos. I might be changing my idea then…

2D | 18 Emotions

love 2

love ; /lʌv/
(n.) the most spectacular, indescribable, deep euphoric feeling for someone

Love is an incredibly powerful word. Love is intense and passionate. Love is complicated and unpredictable. It’s an adventure that has many different stages, it’s soft and flowy which resembles the broad sea.

sensual ; /sɛnsjʊəl,-ʃʊəl/
(adj.) arousing gratification of the senses and physical, especially sexual, pleasure

Sensual has to do with the five senses, but it comes with a hint of lewdness, a suggestion of sex. It’s something mysterious, gentle, soft like silk and can be fierce at times. It reminds me of soft, curvy lines that has different thickness to show the gradual increase of sexual tension or pleasure.

lust ; /lʌst/
(n.) an emotion or feeling of intense desire in the body

Lust is a fierce, thirsty, hungry, wild and passionate emotion, that is sometimes uncontrollable. “From lust to losing your mind”. Lust makes your mind goes into turmoil, you can’t think as though you’re consumed with hunger. It reminds me of scratches, wild and strong strokes to show the desire.

ecstasy ; /’ɛkstəsi/
(n.) an intense or overwhelming feeling of great happiness or joyful excitement, an emotional or frenzy/trance-like state

Ecstasy is a state of intensified or heightened feeling. Ecstasy suggests an intensification of emotion so powerful as to produce a trance like dissociation from all but the single overpowering feeling. It reminds me of psychedelic patterns/colours and static movements.

New life

hope ; /həʊp/
(n.) a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen

Hope is waiting for something to happen, a miracle. Hope is finding an oasis in the middle of the dry Sahara Desert. Hope makes me think of a window – an escape, a contrast in lines, finding something that is unexpected or impossible, like a needle in a haystack.

surprise ; /səˈprʌɪz/
(n.) an unexpected or astonishing event, fact, etc

Surprise is a sudden feeling of wonder or astonishment. Surprise is more can be neutral/moderate, pleasant, unpleasant, positive, or negative. But to me, surprise is more of a positive feeling, therefore, I would feel that defined shapes will depict “my surprise” better.

eagerness ; /ˈi:gənəs/
(n.) enthusiasm to do or to have something; keenness

Eagerness is a characteristic of being excited and prepared to do something. It reminds me of random strokes and curves, to depict change of directions of an eager person who keeps pacing around.

disgust ; /ˈdɪsˈɡʌst/
(n.) a feeling of revulsion or strong disapproval aroused by something unpleasant or offensive.

Disgust is something either makes me feel unpleasant and uneasy. Disgust reminds me of uneven shapes, clusters and trypophobia.

enthrallment ; /ĕn-thrôl′/
(n.) to captivate or charm someone and hold one’s attention.

Enthrallment is to capture and hold one’s attention; to fascinate. Enthrallment makes me think graceful, swirly curvy lines in repetitive motions, that is quite hypnotic.

frustration ; /frʌˈstreɪʃn/
(n.) the feeling of being upset or annoyed as a result of being unable to change or achieve something

Frustration is a feeling of annoyance that occurs when something doesn’t go as you expect, which may lead to anger. The greater the obstruction, the greater frustration is likely to be. There’s a thin line between anger and annoyance, which is frustration. Frustration reminds me of cracks and thin lines that will break if a person gets angry.

torment ; /ˈtɔːmɛnt/
(n.) to afflict physical or mental suffering, to worry or annoy excessively

Torment to me is a repetitive action or motion that annoys, disturbs, irritates someone which causes an extreme mental and emotional distress. It reminds me of claustrophobic, repeated patterns and stagnant motion which will make the person feel trap.

agitation ; /adʒɪˈteɪʃ(ə)n/
(n.) a feeling of aggravation or restlessness brought on by provocation or a medical condition

Agitation is the act of stirring things up, a mental state of extreme disturbance. There’s a thin line between anger and annoyance, which is agitation. When I’m agitated, it feels like tons of needles are poking in my mind and a screeching voice is on an never ending loop at the back of my head. It reminds me of inconsistent, messy, sharp looking shapes, angular lines and high frequency.

timid ; /ˈtɪmɪd/
(adj.) showing a lack of courage or confidence; easily frightened

Timid is being overly cautious or fearful. Those who are timid often worry that things will go wrong: a timid eater orders bland food to avoid the possibility not liking the flavour of something new. It reminds me of thin lines that are soft, not define, faded, and there’s indecisiveness in the movement.

grief ; /ˈgrēf/
(n.) intense sorrow, especially caused by someone’s death or loss

Grief is a heavy, oppressive sadness. We associate it most often with mourning a loved one’s death, but it can follow any kind of loss. It reminds me of heavy-weight lines or an image that slowly loses it’s shape and fades away.

sadness ; /sadnəs/
(n.) the condition or quality of being sad

Sadness is an emotional pain associated with feelings of disadvantage, loss, despair, helplessness, disappointment and sorrow. Sadness reminds me of darkness, a growing darkness – aura around you. It grows and grows… till you fall deep into the darkness.

fear ; /fɪə/
(n.) a distressing emotion aroused by impending danger, evil, pain, etc

Fear includes anxiety and can be very emotionally painful. Fear is an anxious concern, to be afraid of something or someone, to expect and worry. The gradual growing of fear can be expressed by the thickness, gradient of lines. Fear makes me feel claustrophobic, uncomfortable hence there shouldn’t be any space left to hide.

unease ; /ʌnˈiːz/
(n.) an uneasy state of mind usually over the possibility of an anticipated misfortune or trouble

Unease is feeling anxious, discomfort, apprehensive and lacking a sense of security. Being uneasy reminds me of knots, feeling like you’re being tied up in a situation without a clear destination.

panic ; /ˈpanɪk/
(n.) sudden uncontrollable fear or anxiety, often causing wildly unthinking behaviour

A sudden overwhelming fear, outbreak, that produces hysterical or irrational behaviour and makes someone unable to act or think normally. Panic, is when my mind is in a mess. It reminds me of messy wild lines that are inconsistent.

2D | “My Line is Emo”

Here are my 18 emotions that I drew for practice and their definitions.
They are not the final 18 emotions as I might be changing some of them.

Love is… complicated. Love is unpredictable, and it’s an adventure that has many different stages. Love is soft and flowy that resembles the broad sea.

Sensuality is something mysterious, gentle and fierce at times. I had thickened the lines at some point of my drawing to show a gradual increasing of sexual tension.

Lust is a fierce, thirsty, hungry and passionate emotion. “From lust to losing your mind”. Lust makes your mind goes into turmoil, you can’t think as though you’re consumed with hunger. For my drawing, I tried to mimic the scratches that are normally left after a “passionate night”. But… it looks more like Wolverine who did it, doesn’t it.

Ecstasy can be an overwhelming feeling or great emotion or it can be a religious frenzy/trance-like state. I used different patterns like lines, shapes and circles to show the “trance-like state” when a person is overwhelmed by emotions.

Hope is finding an oasis in the middle of the Sahara Desert. Hope is waiting for something to happen, hope is waiting for a miracle. I tried to show the “oasis” hope concept by inserting a circle in the lines to show the contrast.

Joy is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. In my mind, joy makes me think of never-ending swirls, soft lines. Hopefully I will be able to capture the peaceful image of joy that goes in my head.

Euphoria is a feeling or state of intense excitement and happiness. I didn’t manage to deliver this emotion well. To me, euphoria makes me think of fluffy, floating stuff that makes me happy.

Being curious is like being in your own bubble and you keep thinking about a particular thing, wanting to figure it out. Curiosity is something that you’ll never stop probing till you get to know what you want.

Enthrallment is to capture and hold one’s attention; fascinating. Enthrallment makes me think graceful, swirly swirly lines in repetitive motions – reminds me of the swan or a ballerina.

Agitation is feeling aggravation or restlessness brought on by provocation. It reminds me of cracks as agitating someone is to annoy him/her till they break or get angry (provoking).

Torment is to afflict physical or mental suffering. My drawing focuses on the mental suffering as I repeated the pattern to give a claustrophobic and stagnant motion – which is torment to me if something keeps repeating on a loop.

Frustration is the feeling of being annoyed, upset when you’re unable to achieve something. When I feel frustrated, it feels like lots of needles are poking into my mind and it annoys me. When I’m frustrated, I tend to furrow my eyebrows. Hence, I decided to draw sharp looking patterns that simply makes me furrow my eyebrows as it sort of pokes at my frustration.

Sadness to me is a feeling of emptiness, loneliness, lost. You may be kept together on the exterior, but deep inside, there are just voids waiting to be filled.

Grief is an intense sorrow, caused by loss. By using flowers, it represents the person’s life as griefs are normally caused by death of a loved one. It’s compact and kept together in the beginning, but grief slowly makes you lose yourself into sorrow and soon you’ll fade away.

Isolation is to distance yourself from people. The dots in my drawing are people and the dot furthest to the right is trying to isolate him/herself. The wavy lines enhances the loneliness that the person is feeling, isolation is something that doesn’t go well with me.

Fear is an unpleasant emotion. I tried showing the gradual growing of fear from the gradient/thickness of lines used in the center. And by drawing them so close together, I hope to achieve how fear makes me feel claustrophobic, uncomfortable, and when you have no where else to hide.

Unease is feeling anxiety or discomfort. To me, being uneasy is when your mind is in knots and you’re unsure on what to do and you can’t find the solution to your question.

Panic an uncontrollable fear or anxiety, often causing wild behaviour. When I think of panic, it’s static, straight lines which is messy and all over the place.

So yup, here are my 18 emotions (which are not the final ones). I will post my mark making stuff on the next post!

3D | Sketch Models 1

Hi all,

Here are my first few 3D models! They are not the improved ones as these are sort of the first drafts and I will be including the comments by Ms Cheryl from today’s consultation. Well actually she mentioned that majority of my models has very confusing SD and SO… But anyhow, I will just post my progress since I already took the effort to photoshop and brighten each picture :p

*please click on the picture for an enlarged version*

Model 1model-1No comments on this. I guess Ms Cheryl didn’t like this hmmm.

Model 2

Model-2Lengthen my D. Shorten and trim my SD thinner. Whereas for my SO, make it thinner and smaller. The SD will be piercing through the SO so that it can be seen from all views (only if i’m doing this for my final)

Model 3

Model-3Ms Cheryl mentioned that my D and SD are quite similar, and my SO is not obvious enough. Therefore suggesting to shorten SD’s width and SO to be thinner.

Model 4

Model-4Ms Cheryl mentioned that the D is not obvious enough, and I’ve to make it bigger. For my SO, it’s too long and I’ve to shorten it.

 Model 5Model-5

Among all my models, this is my favourite as I really like how balanced it looked. However, Ms Cheryl mentioned that this structure is quite bad as she can’t really tell which is which LOL. As she said that my SD and SO is very confusing. So… she sort of gave suggestions to help me to restructure and work on this model. But I’m not done with yet as I’m still working on it. I will post it up on the next post!

So stay tuneeeee.
